RESULTS: chemical analysis
The chemical compositions of the two alloys, although both af the AISI 304 class, show some differences:
- the carbon content of the tt SS is lower than that of the conventional one, and this lowers the possible precipitation of chromiun carbides
- the nitrogen content, which reduces the kinetic of formation of M23C6, is higher in the tt processed SS, however this difference should not play a relevant role [P. Lacombe and G. Beranger in Stainless Steels eds P. Lacombe, B. Baroux and G. Beranger, Les Editions de Phisique - France 1993 pag. 50]
- some molybdenum is present in the tt SS, thus, even if its content is low, it could have a beneficial effect in the passive layer formation. However, molybdenum should not play any role in the improvement of sensitisation resistance of the SS.
The two materials can be used for the aim of the paper.
