EXPERIMENTAL: techniques
Electrochemical characterisation (using remote controlled potentiostat- galvanostat PAR273A and frequency response analyser Solartron 1255 with dedicated software Powersuite, Perkin Helmer) in a conventional cell with three electrodes (WE, SCE and a platinum net placed in a separate compartment in contact with the test solution through a fried vitreous membrane as counter electrode) at room temperature under continuous de-aerating with high-purity nitrogen:
- Double Loop-Electrochemical Potentiokinetic Reactivation (DL-EPR) tests in 0.5 M H2SO4 + 0.01 M KSCN with a potential sweep rate of 1.67 mV/s [V. Cihal, Intergranular Corrosion of Steels and Alloys, Materials Science Monographs no. 18, Elsevier, N.Y. (1984)]
- polarisation measurements in 1 M HClO4 + 0.2 M NaCl aqueous solutions with a potential sweep rate of 0.5 mV/s [S. Pednekar and S. Smielowska, Corrosion 36, 565 (1980)]
- Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS) measurements in DL-EPR solution (0.5 M H2SO4 + 0.01 M KSCN) at 0.2 V/SCE (passive region) and -0.1 V/SCE (reactivation region) with an a.c. amplitude 10 mV and a frequency range 10-2-105 Hz
Morphological analyses using an eye microscope (DMLM Leika).
