Electrochemical treatment of wastewater containing poliaromatic organic pollutants
    Water Research, 34 (2000) 2601-2605

    ABSTRACT
Disposal of industrial wastewater containing naphthalene- and anthraquinone-sulphonic acids by electrochemical methods has been studied in this paper. It was found that only a small fraction of the organics was oxidised by direct electrolyses, while complete mineralisation of the organics was obtained with the indirect process, electrogenerating hypochlorite from chloride oxidation. The effects of operating factors, such as anode materials and chloride concentration, were also investigated. The experimental data suggested that the Ti/Pt anodes had the highest electrocatalytic activity and increasing the chloride concentration in the electrolyte resulted in an increasing of COD and colour removal.

Breakdown of passivity of aluminium alloys by intermetallic phases in neutral chloride solution
    Intermetallics, 8 (2000) 305-312

    ABSTRACT
Aluminium alloys are successfully used in several technological applications. Aluminium itself has weak mechanical properties, hence it is alloyed with other elements and thermally treated to improve and tailor its characteristics. These processes remarkably change the original structure of Al from a homogeneous solid solution to a complex polyphase structure. The growth of intermetallics in the Al matrix allows the hardening process to take place but a modification of the chemical resistance of the alloy can occur. In this paper the influence of intermetallics, formed in some binary and ternary alloys (Al¯Cu, Al¯Cu¯Be, Al¯Mg¯Zn), on the passivity breakdown and corrosion properties of aluminium is investigated and discussed with the aid of electrochemical measurements (anodic polarisation, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy EIS) and surface analysis (SEM, TEM, AES).

Electrochemical detection of b-Naphthol on Boron-doped Diamond electrodes. Influence of anodic treatment
Electrochemical and Solid State Letters, 3 (2000) 429-430

    ABSTRACT
Synthetic boron-doped diamond thin film electrodes (BDD) have been tested for electroanalytical detection of 2-naphthol. This redox reaction was studied by cyclic voltammetry in aqueous acidic solution. Well-resolved oxidation waves were observed and the voltammetric peaks exhibited naphthol concentration dependence. Linear calibration curves were obtained after a simple electrochemical anodic pretreatment.

Electrochemical generation of silver (II) at Boron-doped Diamond electrodes
Electrochemical and Solid State Letters, 3 (2000) 550-551

    ABSTRACT
Synthetic boron-doped diamond thin film electrodes (BDD) have been tested for the electrogeneration of silver (II). In nitric acid, the kinetics of the silver (I) / silver (II) couple have been studied by cyclic voltammetry. The results demonstrated that silver (II) can be produced with high current efficiency by silver (I) oxidation at BDD electrodes. At low concentration of nitric acid and high concentration of silver (I), AgO is formed on the electrode surface.

Depurazione di reflui industriali mediante tecniche elettrochimiche
    Ingegneria Ambientale, 5 (2000) 244-248

    ABSTRACT
This work analyses the applicability of electrochemical treatments of an industrial effluent containing organic compounds such as naphthalen- and anthraquinon-sulphonic acids. Two indirect electrolysis, which generate hypochlorite ions and hydrogen peroxide as chemical reactants, were studied. The optimum conditions of the processes were found and the results compared. Better performances were obtained electrogenerating in situ hypochlorite ions than with hydrogen peroxide. With the hypochlorite ions, as redox reagent, the effluent was decolorized and COD was removed up to value of 100 mg l-1.
