Corrosion behaviour of nanocrystalline Cu90Ni10 alloy in neutral solution containing chlorides
Corrosion Science,41 (1999) 463-475
ABSTRACT
The corrosion behaviour of nanostructured Cu90Ni10 alloys in neutral solution containing different chloride concentrations has been investigated. The passivity of the alloy and the influence of the crystal structure have been examined. A critical chloride concentration for the passive behaviour of the alloys has been determined. The comparison between nanostructured and coarse grained Cu20Ni10 alloys shows a decrease in the protective properties of the passive layer in the nanostructured alloy. Some possible reasons to explain this behaviour have been discussed.

Nickel -cobalt oxide coated electrodes: influence of the preparation technique on oxygen evolution reaction (OER) in an alkaline solution
International Journal of Hydrogen Energy, 24 (1999) 21-26
ABSTRACT
The oxygen evolution reaction (OER) was investigated at 60°C in 15 wt% NaOH solution on NiCo2O4 electrodes. Nickel-cobalt oxides were obtained by different preparation techniques and they were applied to chemically pickled nickel plates. Fresh and artificially aged electrodes were subjected to electrochemical tests. The ageing was performed for 21 days. The correlation between the coating preparations and their electrochemical performances was investigated by analysis of the electrochemical data. The efficiency of the NiCo2O4 electrodes changed significantly with the changing of the preparation method. Two Tafel slopes for the OER were observed in most cases. This behaviour was interpreted on the basis of a change in the valence state of the oxide. The kinetic parameters obtained on NiCo2O4 electrodes were compared and discussed according to the preparation methods.

Oxygen evolution on Co3O4 and Li-doped Co3O4 coated electrodes in an alkaline solution
International Journal of Hydrogen Energy, 24 (1999) 699-707
ABSTRACT
The oxygen evolution reaction (OER) was investigated at 60°C in 15 wt% NaOH solution on Co3O4, Li-doped Co3O4 and perovskite-type oxide (LaNiO3) electrodes. Cobalt and Li-doped cobalt oxides were obtained by different preparation techniques and were applied to chemically-pickled nickel plates. The obtained phases were structurally characterized by X-ray powder diffraction. The electrodes were subjected to electrochemical measurements, before and after electrochemical ageing (21 days, 150 mA cm-2). The correlation between the coating preparations and their electrocatalytic activity was investigated. The efficiency of the studied electrodes seems to depend on the preparation method. Two Tafel slopes for the OER were observed in most cases. This behaviour was interpreted on the basis of a change in the valence state of the surface oxide.

Optimization of coil coating systems by means of electrochemical impedance spectroscopy
Electrochimica Acta, 44 (1999) 4297-4305
ABSTRACT
Corrosion protection of coil-coated hot-dip galvanized (HDG) sheets against aggressive environments depends on several factors linked to galvanizing, chemical conversion, passivation, primer, topcoat. Each component gives a contribution to the final anticorrosive performance of the coated product. The study of such a complex system needs proper sample assessments and powerful experimental techniques. The present paper deals with the study of a significant number of systems using a particular approach based on the analysis of the impedance data at one characteristic frequency.

Electrochemical remediation of copper (II) from an industrial effluent. Part I. Monopolar plate electrodes
Resources, Conservation and Recycling, 26 (1999) 115-124
ABSTRACT
Many studies indicate that flow-through reactors with three-dimensional electrodes can be successfully used for metal removal from dilute streams, but they present high capital costs. So the simplest titanium and stainless steel AISI 904L plate were chosen as cathode materials in tank reactors. A three cell plant was used for cathodic deposition of copper from an industrial effluent containing copper (II). The influence of the flow rate and the initial copper concentration on the removal efficiency and current yield was studied.

Electrochemical remediation of copper (II) from an industrial effluent. Part II: Three-dimensional foam electrodes
Resources, Conservation and Recycling, 27 (1999) 299-307
ABSTRACT
A batch recycle removal of copper ions from an industrial effluent by means of copper foam cathodes was tested. A constant current of 750 A was applied to the cell in order to perform the reduction. Copper depletion was investigated at different solution flow rates and a removal greater than 98% was obtained with a flow rate of 1000 l/h. The influence of initial metal concentration on copper deposition and current efficiency is also discussed.
